Days 232 – 236: She’s Crafty

4 Oct

Is repurposing something that is unused to something that is useful decluttering?

What do you think?

I think so.

I like to have trendy things in my wardrobe. I do. No shame.

Anyway, last year the bib necklace was big for like a minute and I had to have it, so I got my booty out to H&M and got one.  I wore it a few times, found it bulky, and it has been hanging in my closet ever since.

This year all the hip mamas are sporting  big flowers or feathers or some combo thereof in their hair. Check out my About Page. How ahead of the curve am I? Anyway, those were some pretty flowers on that unworn necklace. I couldn’t let that go to waste, but that collection is too big for even my giant George Lopez sized head.  So I cut it in three.

Now this craft took place, like many of my best crafts  do, when I had 10 minutes left to get out the door. SO…no time for sewing or hot glue. A stapler will hold this until I fix it later…or not.

Hot Pink Staples-Fancy, I Know

I may have employed this technique before.

Here’s the  close up.

Ta-Da!

And I have this left for the girls.

I’ve since made three barrettes out of the remaining flowers.

Awesome!

And next year when I get sick of that headband, I’ll sew them on a sweater or t-shirt or something. Who knows.

Crafty.

I also got rid of a ton of other stuff, mostly empty DS  boxes and DVDs that have seen the floor of my van too many times. Bye-Bye Barney.

Awesome! Those staples made me laugh. :) I don’t want you to take this the wrong way, because I SWEAR it’s a compliment! But some mornings I read blogs of these ladies who woke up and sewed their childrens clothes for that day, sent them off to school and then built a new wing onto their house and made a gourmet dinner while looking magazine-ready the whole time. It’s irritating. Especially for me, since I am disabled and it takes a LOT of effort to even get ready for the day! Yours is one of my favorite blogs to read because it’s just dang funny and doesn’t make me feel badly about myself. Don’t have time to do a craft? Get out the stapler! I love it! Haha! And by the way you are SO pretty and look lovely in the picture with the flower headband.

Wow! How could I take that the wrong way! Thanks for all the kind words. You made my day.

What a hot, hip momma you are! Loving the swanky new hairband. I must admit, I don’t employ the stapler, but my world seems to be held together with glue dots. :)

She’s also a hip-hop Momma with the Beastie Boy quote.

I am afraid, dear husband, that although I may be hip-hop, quoting the beastie boys does not make me hip. It makes me old. I remember when they came out…on vinyl!

I know, if only I could keep my yap shut about that kind of thing. Of course, I think that might be why we’re all bloggers, we can’t ever keep it to ourselves. :)

Always knew you were ahead of the times George, oh I mean Megan! LOL (George Lopez? Are you kidding? You’re gorgeous!) That is such a pretty shade of pink and who cares how it’s stuck together? You’re so clever!

Anne, I realize my head does not look disproportionate, but it’s never met a hat that can sit on it. No joke. It’s huge. My kids are the same way. Scott too.

Hey, you’ve got to fight for your right to party. Besides, you look so lovely in that headband and pink sweater! And I LOVE the pink staples, fancy lady. I totally agree with you on repurposing as decluttering.

PS – if you keep decluttering at this rate, one day your son is going to say: “Living at home is such a drag. Now, your Mama threw away your best porno mag.” – BB

I love your headband! Wow, how awesome. I am totally hankering after some of those cloth flowers. Maybe you can be a flower fairy for Halloween ;)

Oh no, I also quote the Beastie Boys… guess I’m old too!

Wait… bib necklaces are… out?? Crap! I will admit I am generally one with great intentions of crafting and VERY little follow through but that headbacn is kick-booty AND I own a stapler so color me inspired! ;)

  7. Julie @ mamamash October 7, 2011 at 10:05 pm #

Yeah, I didn’t even know what a bib necklace was. So you’re light years ahead of me in fashion as well as organization.

You look so pretty! And you do NOT have a George Lopez size head! Thanks for linking to Wicked Awesome Wednesday!

    • Megan October 17, 2011 at 4:48 pm #

Aww…Thank you, but honestly, you can’t get a turtle neck over that thing.

    Hah! Love the staples!

I agree with the others–your headband is very pretty, and absolutely, repurposing does count as decluttering, in my book anyway. :)
